There’s something truly magical about watching young performers grow in confidence, talent, and expression—and this past week, we had the honour of witnessing just that. A huge congratulations goes out to our five incredible girls who have just completed their LAMDA Level 2 exams in Performing Arts!
While we now face the classic 30-day wait to receive their official results, we are already bursting with pride. Each student stepped into the spotlight with passion, dedication, and courage. From all of us here at Music Box, we want to say: you’ve already made us proud. We are certain you’ve absolutely smashed it!
But what exactly is LAMDA, and why is it such a milestone in the performing arts journey?
🎓 What Is LAMDA?
LAMDA stands for the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art, one of the UK’s oldest and most respected drama schools. Beyond its higher education programmes, LAMDA is also renowned for its graded performance and communication exams, which are taken by thousands of young people across the UK and internationally every year.
These exams offer structured pathways to develop and assess talent in:
Acting
Speaking Verse & Prose
Public Speaking
Musical Theatre
Devising Drama
And more.
Each level is designed not only to build technical skills like voice, diction, and movement, but also to empower students with confidence, creative thinking, and self-expression—skills that are invaluable both on and off the stage.
🌟 What Does a Level 2 Exam Involve?
The Level 2 LAMDA qualification sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), typically aligning with grades 4 to 5. At this level, students are expected to show maturity in their performance, a deep understanding of their chosen pieces, and a confident ability to interpret and deliver them with emotional truth.
Preparation involves:
Selecting and learning performance material (monologues, duologues, or devised scenes)
Rehearsing and refining delivery through voice, movement, and facial expression
Demonstrating knowledge of the characters, context, and themes
And finally, presenting their performance under exam conditions to a LAMDA examiner.
It’s a challenge—but one our students rose to with exceptional determination.

Of course, the most nerve-wracking part of any exam experience is the wait. LAMDA examiners take great care to assess each performance fairly and thoroughly, and results are typically released within 30 working days.
So for now, it’s a mix of excitement and anticipation—but we have every confidence that our girls have done brilliantly.
